TV streaming services - the best bang for your buck in 2022

Remember those days when we had very few channel choices on TV? Thankfully those days are gone, and we are now spoiled for choice with a plethora of TV streaming services available.

But finding the best service that will not only make you binge-watch, but also give you the best bang for your buck, is not easy. To help you decide, we’ve reviewed the front runners and created this list of the best streaming services - so keep reading!

Netflix

Topping our list of the best streaming services, not only in Australia, but also worldwide, is Netflix. It features heaps of TV shows and movies in high quality and without any buffering from the Netflix servers.

You’ll never run out of options and reasons to binge-watch, from the old classics to the latest thrillers. Netflix has become even more popular since it introduced original content such as Stranger Things, Peaky Blinders, The Crown, Bridgerton, Black Mirror and Riverdale in recent years. Of course, you can also find many releases from well-known producers like Warner Bros, Universal Studios, Disney, and more.

The basic Netflix plan costs just $10.99/month, which allows you to watch from one screen only, at the same time. The higher the subscription price is, the more features you can get.

Cheap? Pretty much. Big bang for your buck? Absolutely, yes!

Stan

Coming up next is Netflix's closest rival, Stan. For about the same basic plan subscription price of $10.00 a month, you'll get exclusive top-tier programming and excellent, critically acclaimed movies, including Silent Night and Ghost Story.

Stan is not only among the best streaming services in Australia right now, but it's also the first. It has been keeping its promise to deliver original Australian content as well as popular US shows and movies like Grey's Anatomy, Breaking Bad and Scrubs.

And for sports enthusiasts out there, Stan has recently launched Stan Sports for an additional fee of $10.00 per month. It's now home to awesome rugby, tennis, football, and more - content that will make you binge-watch for hours. We think it's absolutely worth every cent.

BINGE

BINGE is the modern streaming offering from Foxtel, and while it’s still pretty new in Australia, it’s now competing strongly among the best TV streaming services, in part due to the original HBO TV shows in its library of streaming content. For all the Game of Thrones fanatics out there, you can binge-watch to your hearts content.

Starting at about the same price as Netflix and Stan, for $10.00 per month you can watch from one screen. Watching from two screens at the same time will cost you $14.00, and four screens will set you back $18.00 a month. Any of these plans will give you a two-week free trial so you can test-drive before you commit to a subscription.

Recently, BINGE has added gaming consoles like PS4 and PS5 to the number of its device compatibilities. A big bang for the buck for gamers, indeed!

Disney Plus

Our list of the best TV streaming services wouldn’t be complete without the ever-popular Disney Plus. It's another relatively new player on the scene, but if you're a fan of Disney cartoons, Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar, this one is for you.

You'll get all these for a dollar more than the usual subscription prices of the other services included in this blog, at $11.99 a month. Or you can also opt to pay annually for $119.99 to get a $24.00 savings.

Here's more! All Disney Plus' TV shows and movies offer 4k streaming, so you can binge-watch all you want without hurting your eyes. Make sure to have the popcorn handy, as you'll definitely have the kids watching with you.

Amazon Prime Video

With Amazon's continuous reign as a tech giant, it's not surprising to see it competing with today's best streaming services. What's surprising is how affordable its subscription is. For only $6.99 per month or $59.00 for a year, you'll get the biggest Hollywood movies and TV shows, such as The Hobbit, The Boys, Hunter, Sneaky Pete and more.

All of its content is in high-definition. But if you want to test it first to see if it's the best streaming service for you, Amazon offers a generous 30-day free trial.

One thing is sure - Amazon Prime Video has a huge library of content. Besides the new and updated TV shows and movies, it also features old classics that the oldies in the family would certainly love to binge-watch.

It’s time to binge-watch!

If you can’t find some awesome content in these streaming services, then you’re just not trying hard enough! We recommend signing up to the free trials so you can try before you buy, but these services are so low cost you might eventually subscribe to multiple services.
