Asian beauty tips

Asian beauty secrets revealed

Asians are known all over the world for their beautiful and flawless skin. They have often been the envy of many and the inspiration for countless beauty products. From the seemingly endless array of Korean pop stars who constantly pop up on TV, YouTube and social media sites through to just about every other Asian you come across, they all have one thing in common and that’s youthful, glowing skin.

Ever wondered how Asians maintain that beautiful skin and perfect look? Well wonder no more because from coconut oil to bird poo, today we’re revealing Asia’s best kept beauty secrets!

Slap it away!

As weird as it may seem, Asians believe that the best way for the blood to flow more efficiently is when they slap their skin. They also believe that this is a great way for the skin to absorb any moisturiser, cream or lotion that they put on their skin. This ensures that these skin care products work perfectly for the skin’s overall well-being. This practice originated in Korea and is now popular in many other Asian countries as well.

Turmeric for the face

Yes, you read it right! Turmeric is that spice that gives a beautiful colour and aroma to many tasty dishes. But now it’s time to let it spice up your face! In Thailand, women use turmeric as a facial scrub to give them a radiant looking skin. Just mix together a teaspoon of ground turmeric with a tablespoon of honey then evenly apply the paste to your face while massaging it. Leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes then rinse it off in running water (under the shower is best as it can be a bit messy). You’ll have a beautiful, glowing skin in no time.

Drink plenty of water

Okay, maybe it’s not such a secret since we all know that drinking water is not just good for our skin, it’s also good for our overall health. But Asians make it a habit of drinking plenty of water from the moment they wake up in the morning and all throughout the day. Maybe you should too!

Moisturise with coconut oil

Coconut oil is one of the secret ingredients of many beauty products due to its widely publicised benefits. While it’s commonly known to improve hair quality, it’s also great to use on your skin. Coconut oil has amazing skin rejuvenation components that work well for dry and normal skin types. Many Asians use it as a daily moisturiser or face mask.

Rub on some bird poo (!)

Yes we know it may sound hilarious or ridiculous, but throughout the centuries Japanese Geishas have applied dried poop from nightingales to their skin. You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone with more beautiful skin than a Geisha and that’s because the common practice is to apply a few nightingale droppings to their skin before putting on their makeup. Apparently, it brightens their skin and keeps it glowing throughout the whole day. Care to give it a try?

Regular facials

Many Asian women swear by regular facials and head to the beauty salon at least once a month. Regular facials can target minor concerns like redness, irritation, puffiness and more serious skin conditions like rosacea, acne and dermatitis, as well as preventing premature ageing and smoothing those fine lines. Because many Asian women indulge in frequent facials, their skin doesn’t accumulate deep-seated dirt.

Exercise your face

Are you thinking of having laser treatment? You might want to try exercising your face first and see how it works. Asian women in particular tend to exercise their faces daily for great results. Simple facial exercise such as lightly pushing your forehead with your hand or just saying “Ma Me Mi Mo Mu” in a very exaggerated manner ten times in the morning will do the trick.

Indulge in body massages

Body massages (either in massage parlours or a home service) are a booming business all around Asia. It’s always good to have a body massage every now and then as it enhances the blood circulation in the body. When the blood flows efficiently, it helps remove the puffiness on a person’s face. If you haven’t joined the body massage revolution yet, maybe it’s time that you did.
