Ditch these bad habits and save on insurance cover

Insurance cover is an essential financial vehicle to have. If the unexpected ever happens, you want to make sure your family is covered financially. However, the cost of insurance cover can be costly, especially if you’re having trouble trying to make ends meet and paying your regular everyday expenses.

Even if you do have insurance cover in place, it’s probably one of the costs you wish you could somehow eliminate or reduce so that you could use those funds to pay other bills or to save. But did you know that your lifestyle habits play a big part in how much you pay or will pay for insurance cover? Let’s look at 3 bad habits you could ditch in order to save money on insurance cover!

  1. Smoking: If you smoke, insurance companies will charge more for cover because you’re looked at as being a higher health risk. With smoking being linked to a wide variety of health issues, if you want insurance cover as a smoker, you’re going to pay more for it.
  1. Cholesterol: Cholesterol is a fatty substance found in everyone’s bodies. It’s normal to have cholesterol, but there is good cholesterol and bad. When your cholesterol is high, it means there’s too much of the bad and it can cause your arteries to become blocked, leading to health issues. Insurance companies will often charge higher premiums for those with high cholesterol because just like with smoking, the person is deemed a higher health risk.
  1. Obesity: People who are overweight are considered a higher risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke and a variety of other health issues. When insurance companies are writing policies, they look at a bunch of different risk factors, one of them being obesity, or a person’s BMI (body mass index).

For those who smoke, quitting smoking and staying smoke-free can help lower your insurance costs or make it more affordable when you do take out a policy. With cholesterol and obesity, integrating healthy eating habits and exercising can help bring your numbers down so you are deemed less of a health risk from an insurance perspective.
