Eight awesomely good healthy drinks and smoothies

Whether it’s a healthy breakfast on the go or a quick and easy way to inject some more fruit and vegies into your diet, we’ve tracked down some of the most amazing smoothies and shakes you’ll ever taste! You can whip these up in next to no time and know that the family are enjoying a tasty treat that’s full of goodness. We’ve even thrown in a few superfoods to up the nutrition stakes.

Overnight oatmeal shake

This is one breakfast shake that’s packed with fibre and protein – and it really takes the concept of overnight oats to a whole new level. Be sure to pack everything into your blender the night before so everything brews overnight.

Here’s what to throw in: half a cup of rolled oats, one tablespoon of chia seeds, half a teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 apple (peeled, cored and chopped), two Medjool dates (pitted and chopped) and one cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Give it a good stir to make sure everything is combined well then place in the fridge. The next morning, give it a good blend, adding extra almond milk if the consistency is too thick. This is one ridiculously creamy and comforting protein shake!

Zesty turmeric flush

Turmeric is well known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties and when teamed with the highly effective cleansing abilities of the humble lemon, it’s an awesomely healthy drink for the morning, with some free detox thrown in!

Just mix together 2 cups of water, the juice of one lemon, half a teaspoon of ground turmeric, quarter of a teaspoon of ground ginger, and an eighth of a teaspoon each of cayenne pepper and cinnamon and then sweeten to taste with Stevia, honey or maple syrup.

Spineapple smoothie

You won’t notice the spinach lurking in the background (that’s providing one serve of vegies!) of this delicious and healthy smoothie. Just blend together a cup of chopped pineapple, 2 cups of spinach, half a cup of grapes, one banana, a cup and a half of orange juice and some ice. Instant goodness!

Ginge-nana smoothie

Nothing beats ginger for soothing digestion issues, heartburn, nausea and just about anything stomach-related. This naturally healing remedy tastes great and is a real treat for ginger lovers.

Throw into your blender one sliced banana, around half a teaspoon of freshly grated ginger, three quarters of a cup of vanilla or Greek yoghurt and a little honey to taste. Blend until smooth and enjoy.

Green chia smoothie

Chia seeds make our superfood list because they’re packed with anti-oxidants. They also boost your metabolism, give you energy and help you to stay full for longer – what’s not to love!

Into your blender place a cup each of spinach, frozen pineapple chucks and unsweetened almond milk, throw in a banana and a tablespoon of chia seeds then blitz away. This will keep you full for hours.

Two times berrylicious smoothie

The addition of two different berries – strawberries and goji berries makes this smoothie an antioxidant, vitamin and mineral powerhouse. Just blend a cup of strawberries with 2 tablespoons of dried goji berries (soak in a tablespoon of water for at least 15 minutes first), 2 cups of almond milk and honey to taste (1–2 teaspoons will do the trick). Blitz until smooth and enjoy!

Nutty kale smoothie

This is one protein-packed smoothie that combines pineapple, kale and peanut butter into a green glass of goodness. Into your blender, throw 2 cups of lightly packed, chopped kale leaves, a frozen banana (chopped), a handful of frozen pineapple pieces, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, ¾ cup of milk, ¼ cup of Greek yoghurt and 1–2 teaspoons of honey.  Blend until smooth and add more liquid if you prefer the consistency of your green smoothie to be a bit thinner.

Refreshing watermelon mint smoothie

This is the perfect drink for hot days and makes a perfect breakfast smoothie or late afternoon snack when you need something sweet.

Cut a wedge of watermelon into chucks (you’ll need around 2½ cups) and add it to your blender with ¼ cup of fresh mint leaves, 2 small Lebanese cucumbers (chopped but unpeeled), the juice of 1 lime and a handful of ice. Blend until smooth and enjoy.

Making it happen!

If you’re seriously into your smoothie-making then we recommend investing in a serious blender to help you out. And when it comes to seriousness in the blending department, you can’t go past a Vitamix or a Thermomix. Sure they’re a little on the expensive side but don’t worry if your finances won’t quite stretch that far – we’re here to help. Just check out our $1,000 - $2,000 small loans, or $2,000 - $5,000 personal loans to find out how quick and easy it is to get your hands on some extra funds. Once a loan is approved, we can usually deposit the cash into your bank account within a few hours - so you’ll be blending up some superfood goodness in next to no time!
