Essential oil diffuser

Essential oils - they're not just for the diffuser

We all love putting essential oils into our favourite oil diffuser. A few drops of lavender oil is the natural energy enhancer that we all need after a hard day’s work, and it’s also a great remedy for stress relief. If you have trouble sleeping, a dash of eucalyptus oil into the diffuser will make you sleep like a baby (and it reduces snoring too). Essential oils and oil diffusers go hand-in-hand, but there are loads of other uses for essential oils. Check these out:

1. Remove odours

If your laundry has been sitting in the basket for a while, it might have accumulated a less than pleasant odour. Toss a drop or two of lemon essential oil while washing it and you will have fresh smelling clothes in no time. Lemon oil and baking soda can also remove fridge odours. Just add about 15 drops of lemon essential oil in a small container with baking soda and keep it in your fridge. That should keep your fridge smelling pleasant for at least a month.

2. Control nausea

Whenever you feel nauseous, just add 5 drops of peppermint essential oil to 1 tablespoon of fractionated coconut oil and rub the mixture into the soles of your feet - then relax and feel the nausea going away.

3. Bathroom deodoriser

Now you can keep your bathroom smelling nice all the time by making your own bathroom deodoriser. Just add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to a container of baking soda. Poke some holes in the cover and leave it in your bathroom – it’ll absorb any odours and keep your bathroom smelling fresh.

4. Relieve muscle pain

Sore muscles? No problem! Keep marjoram essential oil handy as it’s best known for its warming effect which is great for calming those muscles. Just add a drop or two of marjoram essential oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil and massage it into your sore muscles.

5. Relax tired feet

Working all day wearing those high heels or leather shoes can take a toll on our feet. We know it’s good to come home and put your feet up on the sofa, but before you do, prepare your very own homemade foot spa to soothe and  relax your feet completely. Just mix a few drops of peppermint essential oil and Epsom salts in a bucket of warm water and soak your feet until they start feeling good again.

6. Brighten hair colour

Isn’t it surprising to know that you can also use essential oil to brighten your hair colour? The heat from the sun can make your hair colour dull. Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to a spray bottle with water and spray it evenly into your hair just before you go out in the sun. This should keep your hair colour bright and shiny all day long.

7. Help hair growth

Speaking of hair, if your hair is starting to thin or you have naturally thin hair, here’s the solution to that. Rosemary essential oil helps healthy hair growth. Just add a few drops of rosemary oil to a carrier oil such as coconut or avocado oil and apply it to your scalp after washing your hair. Let it take effect for a few minutes then rinse well. Do it regularly and you’ll see your hair start to become lusher.

8. Fragrance for silk flowers

If you have a few vases of silk flowers scattered around your house or in the office, you can keep them smelling like the real deal. Keep a mixture of any of your favourite floral scent essential oil and water in a spray bottle, then simply spray your silk flowers whenever needed to freshen the smell.

9. Make your skin glow

We all want to have a healthy glowing skin, so it’s time to get essential oils working for you. Just add a drop of lavender essential oil to your moisturiser and massage it gently into your skin using just the tips of your two fingers. Your skin will glow like it never did before!

Isn’t it surprising to know that there are more uses for essential oils than just using them in an oil diffuser? There are plenty of essential oils on the market today, but the really good quality ones can be a bit pricey.
