Air conditioning

It's hot out! Four ways to save on air conditioning costs

Can’t stay cool because you’re worried about how much money your air conditioning bill will be if you use too much? Let’s face it, it can be quite hot outside, but it’s also important to be able to stay cool and comfortable. So how do you stay cool without a huge bill?

It’s hot out so here are 4 ways to keep cool and save on air conditioning costs!

  1. Make sure to have your air conditioning unit(s) serviced every year to ensure everything is running properly. If something isn’t working right, or as well as it could be, your system will have to work harder and therefore end up costing more. While this will cost a little bit of money inititally, it will save you in the long run.
  1. Leave the temperature settings alone. Some people think that it’s best to turn up the temperature while they're at work or while they’re sleeping in order to save, but when you turn the temperature back down, your system has to work even harder to get the temperature cool and comfortable again.
  1. Make sure all windows and doors in your home are weatherproof and there are not any drafts. If there are drafts where air can get in, not only are you letting more warm air in, but you’re also letting your cool air out.
  1. Use appliances that don’t create much heat during the warm months. Instead of using the oven for example, BBQ outside. You can also hang clothing outside to dry, rather than using a dryer.
Bonus tips!

To help save even further, close window treatments such as blinds or drapes; or install energy efficient blinds or drapes, and if you’re using room air conditioners, only use them in the rooms of your home that become the warmest.

Done all you can to save on air conditioning costs, but still feeling the pinch? See if a mini-loan is the right option for you to help cover those extra energy costs during the warmer months.
