Mobile apps

Mobile apps that can help you save money

We all want our dollars to stretch as far as possible and there are loads of money saving apps out there that can help you keep on track.  Here are a few to check out:

Trolley Saver
Trolleysaver is great for saving money on your supermarket shopping – if you’re prepared to shop at multiple outlets. It automatically links your shopping list with supermarket specials in your area. It features an intelligent shopping list so you can easily create the list of things you want to buy and tells you instantly what’s on special. Trolley Saver claim that on average, a family of three can save $72 per week with this app.

Free, available for iOS and Android.

Mint
Mint is a free money manager app from Intuit.  It brings together your bank accounts, credit cards, bills and investments so you can see at a glance where you stand and it even sends you reminders so you pay your bills on time – no more late fees with this great app! Creating your budget is quick and easy and the app tracks your spending, categorises it and then alerts you when you approach your budget limit.

Free, available for iOS and Android.

Level Money
This handy little app calls itself the ‘mobile money meter’. Just connect it to your bank account and it automatically calculates your income and recurring bills, and then suggests what your spending for the day, week or month could be. Any amounts that you want to save each month are subtracted from your monthly budget and if you set up auto-save, any budget surplus will rollover to your savings account.

Free, available for iOS and Android.

Splitwise
If you share the bills in your household then Splitwise is the app for you. It’s also a great app for figuring out who needs to pay what if you’re heading off on a group holiday, or if someone has lent you money. The app keeps track of bills, IOU’s, group expenses and more, and everyone can log in to see their balance or add a new expense. The app sends push notifications with every update so everyone knows what they need to pay.

This is a great app for sharing holiday costs but if you need a little helping hand to get you there, check out our mini loans that are simple, easy and quick.  We can usually get a payment into your bank account within 24 hours so you can get on with the things that matter most to you.

Free, available for iOS and Android.

Acorns AU
This smart little app takes your loose change and invests it into a diversified portfolio of stocks and bonds. Spending $4.25 on a cup of coffee?  Acorns rounds it up to $5.00 and then invests the 75 cents lose change.  It might not sound like much but if you round up all the purchases you make in a year it can make a big difference to the size of your investment.

Only $1.25 per month, available for iOS and Android.

Unsplurge
Unsplurge is the go-to app if you are saving for something special. Simply add your list of goals and rank them in order (this might be a holiday, deposit for a new car, a designer handbag, anything at all). Rather than spending money today on things you don’t really need, put the money away and let the app know that you’ve done it. It keeps track of how well you’re going, and there’s a community to help you stay on track. A nice, fun app that will help you save money towards your goals.

Free, available on iOS only.
