Spice up your beauty routine and save using these household products!
Beauty products can certainly put a dent in your budget! Companies love to market the latest beauty trends on TV and across social media. All you have to do is get on Instagram or Facebook before you start seeing ads for why you need to buy - including the newest lotion, makeup or hair care products.
But did you know you can save money on a lot of these products by simply using things you probably already have in your home? Let’s learn how to spice up your beauty routine and save money by using these household products!
- Olive oil has many uses in the kitchen, but it probably has more uses as a beauty product! It can be used to soften your face and skin in place of lotions (it’s best applied when your skin is damp); and it can also be used to bring lustre and shine back to your hair. Just remember, if you use it on your hair you will have to use shampoo to rinse out the oil afterwards, so it doesn’t leave your hair greasy.
- Honey is another kitchen product that is great for your skin! Many people use honey as a face mask either by itself or mixing it with sugar or lemon. There are too many “honey” beauty recipes to list, but a quick Google search will help you come up with the one that meets your specific needs.
- Oily hair or a lot of built up residue? Did you know that what you wash your dishes with can also help remove the oil and residue buildup from your hair? Simply wash with it, as you would with shampoo, and remember to condition afterwards.
- If your lips are dry you can also make your own lip balm at home by mixing beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil. You’ll want to do this in a double boiler. This is done by mixing all ingredients in a top pan or heat proof glass bowl and then placing it over a pot of boiling water. You will want to stir the ingredients until they are well mixed and then pour into little containers. You can even add scents or fresh herbs if you like!
You don’t have to go far from your kitchen if you want to spice up your beauty routine by using the products you probably already have at home. Not only is it fun to experiment making your own DIY beauty products, but it will also save you money and trips to the beauty counter at your local shopping centre!
But if you do feel your beauty routine needs a serious boost, why not treat yourself to a day spa or overnight retreat so you can replenish both your body and your mind!
