These days it seems our phones are capable of just about anything and with around 3 million apps available through the Apple App Store as at June 2017 and 3.5 million through Google Play as at December 2017 (www.statista.com) it’s no wonder.
We can’t say we’ve reviewed all 3 million of them but we have found some that we think are the best Android apps and pretty damn awesome iPhone apps, so make sure you check these out. Many of them are free, with in-app purchases available.
1. MyFitnessPalOk so it’s not so new but this is an amazing app for anyone looking to shed a few kilos (and who isn’t looking to do that after those holiday indulgences!). This great little app tells you how many calories you consume each day, and how many calories you’ve burned up through exercise. It even forecasts what your weight will be in 6 weeks time if every day was the same as the current day.
2. Oh She GlowsIf your New Year's resolution included eating a little healthier and incorporating more plant based foods in your diet then this is the app for you. It includes around 100 recipes that are not only good for you, they look absolutely amazing too. Step by step instruction, tips and nutritional information are all included.
3. TwitchTwitch is one of the world’s leading live social video platforms for gaming. Watch live streams of the video games and activities you love, and chat with streamers and other viewers – anywhere, anytime.
4. Zombies, Run!Get ready for the run of your life! Zombies, Run! is a super-immersive running game and audio adventure. Every run becomes a mission where you’re the hero, chased down by zombies. You can hear them on your heels – every rasping breath, every unsettling groan, they are everywhere! The only way to save yourself is to run.
5. CalmThe polar opposite of Zombies, Run! this is the ultimate relaxation app. It features mindfulness and meditation techniques to help bring more clarity, joy and peace to your daily life. With sleep stories, breathing programs and relaxing music it’s the perfect way to de-stress.
6. DuolingoIf learning a new language is on your to-do list for 2018, the Duolingo is here to help! It’s fun and free – and has 23 languages to choose from. You can even compete with your friends. TIME magazine certainly sum it up when they say that Duolingo may hold the secret to the future of education.
7. TidalTidal is the world’s first music service with high fidelity sound quality and it also comes with more than 130,000 high definition music videos, integrated music articles, features and interviews.

It lets you keep track of your spending, see where you can save money and stay on top of your bills – everything in one place!
9. PaprikaDitch the old paper-based recipe books, this handy little app helps you organise your recipes, plan your meals, make grocery lists and scale ingredients to the number of people you need to feed. You can download recipes from your favourite website and the Pantry feature keeps track of which ingredients you have and when they expire.
10. PrismaPrisma is an awesome app that can transform your photos into masterpieces using the styles of famous artists such as Picasso and Van Gogh to create stunning photo effects.
