Three ways to save on school expenses for your kids
Now that the school holidays are coming to an end, parents across Australia feel a pinch in their wallets due to back-to-school shopping. To further add to this stress, kids are constantly growing, which means that clothing and uniforms that fitted last term may no longer fit, resulting in replacement costs. From uniforms, shoes, other clothing, and costs associated with sports, a new school term can leave your budget bursting at the seams!
To help ease the stress and financial burden of back-to-school shopping, we’ve created a list of three ways that could help save on school expenses for your kids – let’s go!
- Swap clothing and shoes with neighbors, friends and family. Swapping with other parents is one of the easiest ways to save money on buying brand new school clothing and other supplies. If you don’t know anyone who might have the sizes that you need, consider starting a list and have other parents add what they have or what they need to it. Doing so will not only help save you money, but it may also help save others money too!
- Look through the clothing of your other children. Maybe one child is a few years older than the others, but children grow at varying rates. Handed down clothing from an older sibling may fit sooner than you think! Remember to check all areas of their room to make sure you don’t miss any items of clothing that may have fallen behind furniture.
- If swapping clothes or outgrown clothing from older siblings isn’t an option, you may also want to explore shopping second-hand. Buying at a seconds store can result in significant savings and most clothing is in great condition.
If you don’t have luck with these three options, another idea would be to contact the school where your child is attending (or going to attend). The school may have additional ideas on how you can save on school uniforms and on other expenses.
